The first pocket transistor radio from Raytheon Mfg Co, Cambridge MA, this yellow is one of five color combinations offered. Raytheon was a pioneer in the development of the transistor, but only made this for one year in 1956. This is a sought after example of early transistor radio history and the atomic age!

Now part of Raytheon Missile Defense Company, they started out in 1922 as a company focused on new refrigeration technology. Quickly shifting to electronics, they soon became the worlds largest vacuum tube manufacturer- used in radios, televisions, and eventually military technologies in WWII. In progressive fashion, they became instrumental in the development of the transistor, which allowed for portable electronics without the delicate tubes. This radio was their short venture into transistor radios, made for only one year.

I put a battery in, and it powers up but seems to struggle to pull in a station. I think it's my area, as other radios I have act similar. This might actually work well in a different area, or may need a tune up. Case is in excellent condition with no cracks. The rear cover opens as it should with the clip working. Battery compartment is clean with no corrosion. All plastic with a solid brass dial. The logo is in perfect condition with no wear. Have a rare, fun color yellow transistor on your shelf today!
