These were made by some great manufacturers such as Stillson (Walworth), Samson, Coe, Bemis & Call, and others. Monkey wrenches went before crescent wrenches and were sometimes called spanner wrenches. I like to maintain some patina to show these are vintage and well used. I wire wheel them, coat with a light coat of mineral oil that dries to preserve the look. The handles are sanded, cracks repaired, and finished with linseed oil, stain, or a wipe-on polyurethane. On the Bemis and Call pipe wrench, I painted it black after doing some handle repairs. Upcoming projects include a full polishing to a mirror shine and beautiful color stained handles!
