Woodworkers love these planes because of the comfortable horned handle (they're made to fit either left or right hands), and because you can utilize a little used technique in pulling the plane instead of just pushing. They are used for the finest finishing of wood surfaces, before sandpaper became common. I purposely mounted the blade in front of the wedge to show the polished metal, but you'll mount it behind the wedge for use. When set properly, you can shave wood thin enough to see through it. This took a good degree of ingrained dirt removal and some light sanding which revealed GERMAN on the wood. I polished the blade with fine sandpaper but not removing too much material so the logo doesn't get lost. I then painted some gold around the logo to make it pop with a bit of class.
