Roy Jones, Artist for Ford Motor Company
Roy Jones was a very talented artist, yet little known. He was commissioned by the Ford Motor Company historian, Lorin Sorensen for Lorin’s many published books that are quite collectible in their leather bound covers. He also worked directly with Bob Drake, of Bob Drake Reproductions- an Oregon based company who has been manufacturing reproduction Ford car and truck parts since the 1960’s (officially 1971). They became friends, and collaborated together to produce dozens of paintings that highlight the glittering chrome on cars, lush paint jobs, and overall romantic images of people having fun in their car. These were used in calendars, shirts, catalog covers, and general merchandise. They collaborated until the artist's death in 2000. Bob Drake is currently selling a 50th anniversary 2021 calendar with Roy Jones’ work shown each month.
